MEPG recently completed the engineering plans for the repurposing of the 1010 Common building in New Orleans. Kailas Companies is the owner/developer of this 31-story skyscraper that was built in the early 1970’s. The building is being transformed from an office building to a dual brand hotel, while still maintaining six floors of office space. The hotels are Accor’s Fairmont Hotel and Marriott’s Element Hotel.
Rozas Ward is the architect of this massive adaptive reuse hospitality/mixed use project. MEPG provided MEP, Fire Protection and Extra Low Voltage design services. Besides the many other complexities involved in a project of this caliber, we were also tasked with removing the central plant, that was originally located on the penthouse of the high rise, and replacing it with a new central plant on the top floor of the adjoining parking garage. The parking garage also includes three floors dedicated for commercial use.
The project is in the construction phase now.
